Male Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty for Men)

A male tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin and fat while tightening weakened muscles for a flatter, firmer profile. Surgery is performed in London as a day case under TIVA at our CQC-regulated Baker Street clinic, with full tummy tuck prices from £9,000.

Male Tummy Tuck Surgery in London

, also known as a male tummy tuck, is a body contouring procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen, tightens the abdominal wall muscles where required, and repositions the umbilicus to create a flatter and firmer abdominal profile.

Men often consider a male tummy tuck after significant weight loss has left loose or redundant skin, or when abdominal fullness and muscle laxity have not improved with diet and exercise. The procedure targets structural concerns such as excess skin, weakened abdominal support, and stubborn subcutaneous fat that cannot be corrected through fitness alone.

At Centre for Surgery, abdominoplasty is routinely combined with liposuction of the abdomen and flanks, known as , to support more comprehensive contouring alongside skin removal. All procedures are performed under at our by GMC Specialist Register consultant plastic surgeons.

What Is a Male Tummy Tuck?

A male tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a surgical procedure that addresses excess skin, subcutaneous fat and abdominal wall muscle laxity in the male abdomen. It differs from liposuction in that it involves skin excision — the physical removal of redundant skin — and where applicable, repair of the rectus abdominis muscles (diastasis recti) to restore the abdominal wall.

The procedure is appropriate when there is more loose skin than liposuction alone can address. Where the concern is primarily fat with good skin elasticity, may be sufficient. Where significant skin excess is present — whether from weight loss, ageing or previous surgery — abdominoplasty is the appropriate procedure.

For men with excess skin and fat extending beyond the abdomen to the flanks and hips, an or may be more appropriate and will be discussed at consultation.

Benefits of Male Tummy Tuck

Most men who choose abdominoplasty do so following significant weight loss, which typically produces one or more of the following:

Redundant skin following weight loss can be effectively addressed by as part of the abdominoplasty procedure.

Uneven distribution of abdominal fat is effectively treated with liposuction performed at the same session as skin excision.

Men who have lost large amounts of weight may develop significant redundant skin folds that liposuction alone cannot address.

Stretch marks in the lower abdomen can be surgically removed with abdominoplasty. Those above the umbilicus can be treated non-surgically with .

Significant weight gain often results in separation and weakening of the rectus abdominis muscles. Abdominoplasty includes muscle plicationsuturing the muscles back together — to restore a flatter, firmer abdominal wall.

Where only the lower abdomen is concerned, a may be appropriate. This involves a smaller incision limited to the lower abdomen and is combined with liposuction. Recovery is quicker than a full abdominoplasty — most patients require no more than one week away from work and can resume light activity within seven to ten days and gym training at six weeks.

Am I suitable for Male Abdominoplasty?

A male tummy tuck may be appropriate if you have excess skin and fat in the abdominal area that has not resolved with diet and exercise, or that has developed following significant weight loss. Key indicators for suitability:

Suitable for men with a moderate amount of excess skin and fat limited to the lower abdomen below the umbilicus. Involves a shorter incision and does not require umbilical repositioning. Quicker recovery than a full abdominoplasty.

Addresses excess skin and fat across the full abdominal area. Incision extends from hip to hip and the umbilicus is repositioned. Can include repair of abdominal wall muscles where diastasis recti is present. The most commonly performed type in male patients.

For men with excess skin extending beyond the abdomen to the flanks and hips. The incision is longer than a standard tummy tuck, allowing removal of tissue from the lateral flanks for a more comprehensive result.

Appropriate for men with significant excess skin and fat in both the upper and lower abdomen following massive weight loss. Combines a horizontal and a vertical incision to address both planes of skin excess, producing a more defined and sculpted abdominal contour.

Also known as a , this addresses excess skin and fat around the entire midsection — front, sides and back. Recommended for men who have experienced significant weight loss and have excess skin around the full torso. The incision encircles the body, allowing removal of tissue circumferentially for a balanced result.

The Male Tummy Tuck Procedure

Male abdominoplasty is performed under TIVA at our CQC-regulated Baker Street facility. The procedure takes two to five hours depending on the type of abdominoplasty and the extent of the correction. The steps are as follows:

TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia) is administered by a consultant anaesthetist. TIVA is delivered entirely intravenously — no inhaled anaesthetic gases — and is associated with faster recovery and less postoperative nausea than inhalational anaesthesia.

The incision is planned and marked before surgery. In a full tummy tuck it extends from hip to hip just above the pubic area. The exact position and length depend on the type of abdominoplasty being performed.

The skin and subcutaneous fat are lifted from the underlying abdominal muscles to allow access to the muscle layer and the extent of skin excess to be assessed.

Where diastasis recti (muscle separation) is present, the rectus abdominis muscles are plicated — sutured together along the midline — to restore the abdominal wall and produce a flatter, firmer profile.

Excess fat is removed using SAFElipo
